Poofter bashing déjà vu?

Fellow citizens,

Yesterday evening, Christian Kerr reminded us on Facebook of a disgraceful event that occurred in Adelaide in May 1972.

A gay law lecturer at the The University of Adelaide, George Duncan, was killed after being poofter bashed and then thrown into the Torrens River.

Members of the South Australian Police Force were believed to be responsible for his death but were never properly held to account in a court of law.

 Christian wrote:

"In response - and in disgust [to the killing of George Duncan] - a decent, honourable and gentlemanly Liberal member of the state's Legislative Council I was proud to know, Murray Hill, father of Robert, moved what became the nation's first major homosexual law reform legislation.

In coming days the federal parliamentary Liberal Party will need to decide - which side are they on.

I really hope the party still stands for the individual and liberty. I hope..."

I hope so, too.
I can't help but think that these constant delays to marriage equality - cloaked in the 'respectable' veil of 'traditional values' or 'keeping our promises' [on a plebiscite] - is simply another form of poofter bashing.

I ask everyone of those Members and Senators of the Parliament who are opposed to granting equal marriage how they'd feel if they were not allowed BY LAW to marry the person they love.

Bashed by the Commonwealth? I suspect so.

  1. 1972?
    you are pushing it.

The only bashing on this issue has been the homosexual lobby against christians as I see it.
